Tecno_FUS

This CONSOLIDER proposal sets out a new Fusion Technology Programme in Spain. The proposal is a goal oriented R&D programme integrating in an interactive manner key fusion technology areas of knowledge and expertise as coordinated projects. The envisaged activities are nucleated around the development of a breeding blanket concept and the associated plant auxiliary systems.

Breeding blankets are key systems for fusion power reactors. Their development and qualification are crucial for the demonstration of fusion as a viable near-term energy option. In terms of its functional requirements: structural integrity, radiation shielding, high-grade power extraction, and fusion fuel regeneration; a breeding blanket is the most complex component conceived to date for energy technology.

CONSOLIDER proposal TECNO_FUS obeys to a major Spanish Fusion Programme strategic goal of reaching integral design capabilities of a fusion power reactor DEMO within the next decade.

TECNO_FUS is coordinated from the Laboratorio Nacional de Fusión at CIEMAT as Management Entity. It also has the following participations: "Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Técnicas" (CEIT) at UNAV (Universidad de Navarra), International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineer CIMNE (Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña), Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (COMILLAS), Instituto Químico de Sarriá (IQS) Universidad Ramón Llul, ITMA Fundation or "Instituto Tecnológico de Materiales de Asturias", Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED), Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPC), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and Universidad del País Vasco (EHU-UPV)
